Fight Club 1/10/10

Posters had handwavilyshhhh! gone up in a variety of locations all over the island this week, and now it was Sunday evening, with Ghanima and Tyler waiting in the gym.

"Welcome back to our returning members, and hello to those of you that are new," Ghanima began crisply. "I am Lady Ghanima Atreides, he's Tyler Durden. You should have seen the rules on the door when you came in, and if you don't agree with them, you may turn around and leave now."

Tyler nodded, and folded his arms in a way that suggested he would do the ejecting personally if dissidents didn't go on their own.

... it had seriously been too long since his last fight.

"You've been doing introductions for a week. You're probably sick of it, I know I'm sick of it, let's fight. If there's anything weird about you -- you turn into Jello when somebody punches you, you can't be bruised, you can only fight wearing a cape, whatever -- tell one of us before you go and get hurt or hurt somebody else. For now" -- he gestured into the group -- "you two, you two, you two, and, Ghani, I thinkwe should have matches today. I say you fight the mayor."

"If we're doing exhibition fights, then Miss Walters, please indulge me by showing Tyler how much you've improved," Ghanima said sweetly. "And you and you, as well. Everyone else, grab someone you haven't fought before. Make a new friend, and then hit them."

Hey. She wasn't glad the holidays were over, exactly, but it was hard to feel too stressed when she had a six-day weekend.

She'd missed this, though. Plus she got a match? Awesome. Looking maybe a touch thoughtful, Kennedy got to her warmups and kept an eye out for Dru and any other new faces.

"Hey, little sibling," Kennedy greeted her with an easy smile. "Looks like you do, too. Bitchin'. We can be awesome together."

"We'll see," she shrugged. "Dinah handed me my ass the other day."

"Dinah did?" Kennedy didn't know Dinah that well, to be fair, but that seemed kind of, um. Well, unexpected. "So you had an off day. No big, it happens."

"Well it wasn't a complete blow-out," Dru clarified quickly. "I held my own for quite a while. But in the end, she managed to take me down."

"So don't let her do it again," Kennedy replied, half teasing, half serious.

"I wasn't planning on it. She was showing me some of her moves," she told the other girl. "It's a little more formal then what I've been taught, which is fighting dirty, so it should be interesting to put it all together."

"You use what works," Kennedy opined with a shrug. "But the formal stuff's definitely got its use. Muscle memory, technique, that kind of thing. I can show you a few things, and Ghanima does training stuff over there every week if you want to pick up some new moves."

Dru nodded, "I'll take all I can get, put it together and come up with something that works for me."

Kennedy hooked her thumbs in her pockets and nodded approvingly. "That's generally how it goes, yeah. Hey, you do any weapons work at all?"

"I've been handling guns since I was nine. Give me a nine-millimeter and a target and I can hit it.," she said. "I'm pretty accurate with my switchblade and I've handled a crossbow a few times but since we generally avoided suckers, I didn't spend too much time with it."

"I don't really do guns," Kennedy admitted. "I've had it drummed into me for years that we don't do that. I kick ass with a crossbow, though-- why do you avoid 'em?"

"I see you survived visiting your family," Beka said, glad to find Kennedy had returned. Mayhap she'd missed her.

"Yo, Beka! Duh, I survived. I only went for Christmas day." Kennedy grinned and threw an easy left hook at her by way of greeting. "How's it going, miss Runs Off to Chase Thieves?"

Beka blocked the move and tried to use the opening to tap Kennedy's side. "I am well. I see you're still in a good mood."

"You're not exactly doom and gloom girl yourself." Kennedy twisted, half a second too late to avoid the contact but her right elbow already out and aimed for Beka's ribs. "Did you think I had a reason not to be?"

The elbow hit and at the same time, Beka brought her own harm back down, attempting to trap Kennedy while Beka's foot shot forward to hook behind Kennedy's leg. "No, tis good to see."

Kennedy hit the mats with a playful yelp and an oof, and decided to just stay down so they didn't knock over unsuspecting people or anything.

"I didn't realize you paid so much attention to my mood," she said, smirking a bit as she sat up. "Don't get me wrong. I'd be giving you crap about why if you were cranky too."

"Only because it's obvious," Beka wrinkled her nose and held out her hand to help Kennedy up.

Kennedy made a playful show of swatting Beka's hand away and getting up without assistance. "And this is a problem because...?"

"I haven't said it's a problem," Beka pointed out. "How've classes been?"

And still an uncomfortable subject, so... "How 'bout yours?"

"I've enjoyed them," Beka said. "I'm TA now for Law and order. Even if it sounds like we'll mostly be providing food." And coffee, she didn't care for it.

"Hey. Never underestimate the value of food," Kennedy mock-chided her. Guess who was hungry again? And making a face, completely unrelated to the state of her stomach. "Yeah, I'm TA for Love and Romance."

Kennedy kind of walked right into a joke there.
