Office Hours, Friday, 3/5

Tyler was hard at work grading midterms during his office hours today.

... for about an hour. Then he started watching YouTube footage of baby animals and found it so soothing he couldn't click away. It was a good thing he didn't get many visitors; this would be bad for his reputation.

"Good morning, Professor Durden!" Layla chirped as she entered the office carrying various boxes. "Isn't it a glorious day?"

"Peachy," Tyler said, surprised as he clicked to pause the video of baby otters. "... and you would be?"

"Layla Miller," she said with a grunt as she placed the packages on Tyler's desk. "I know stuff. All of these packages are for you."

"I didn't order anything," Tyler said as he went to pull a package open. "If Deadpool sent another purple rhino costume, I'll..."

He didn't get around to saying what he'd do, because when he opened the first package he was greeted by baby food. A lot of baby food. "Pretty sure I especially didn't order this."

"Nothing Rhinoish, sir," Layla said bouncing on the balls of her feet once or twice before standing still. "Those alternate universe kids are coming early this year and I thought you might want to be prepared."

Then from behind her back she pulled out a cigar.

"Congratulations sir, it's a boy."

She really was a good liar when she needed to be.

"Oh. Oh." Tyler poked through the package a bit more and found diapers, a few blankets, a pacifier. "That is ... surprisingly decent of you. Wow. Thanks."

It would suck explaining this to Tony, but at least this year he was prepared.

"You don't know the other parent, do you? Or do I have to be surprised?"

"I'm not at liberty to divulge that, sir," Layla said with a sympathetic look. "But I assure you it will be a complete surprise. You won't ever see it coming."

Tyler hoped it wasn't Boxer. Ronan might well kill him.

... though there would be weirder people. "Not a student?" he asked pleadingly. "'Cause that would just be awkward."

"No students, Professor," Layla said with an amused look. "I assure you that no squicky moral issues were harmed in the process."

"That's as much as I can ask," Tyler said. He pulled out a bib and grimaced at it. He was so not the diapers type, but he figured he could do it for a weekend. "So ... anything else I should know, or should I just be ready for the bundle of joy to show up tomorrow?"

"Just sit back and enjoy the ride, sir," Layla chuckled. "Everyone else will."
