Fight Club 1/10/10

Posters had handwavilyshhhh! gone up in a variety of locations all over the island this week, and now it was Sunday evening, with Ghanima and Tyler waiting in the gym.

"Welcome back to our returning members, and hello to those of you that are new," Ghanima began crisply. "I am Lady Ghanima Atreides, he's Tyler Durden. You should have seen the rules on the door when you came in, and if you don't agree with them, you may turn around and leave now."

Tyler nodded, and folded his arms in a way that suggested he would do the ejecting personally if dissidents didn't go on their own.

... it had seriously been too long since his last fight.

"You've been doing introductions for a week. You're probably sick of it, I know I'm sick of it, let's fight. If there's anything weird about you -- you turn into Jello when somebody punches you, you can't be bruised, you can only fight wearing a cape, whatever -- tell one of us before you go and get hurt or hurt somebody else. For now" -- he gestured into the group -- "you two, you two, you two, and, Ghani, I thinkwe should have matches today. I say you fight the mayor."

"If we're doing exhibition fights, then Miss Walters, please indulge me by showing Tyler how much you've improved," Ghanima said sweetly. "And you and you, as well. Everyone else, grab someone you haven't fought before. Make a new friend, and then hit them."

[OOC: OCD up. We are living dangerously and leaving this in the wrong place. Edit: Also, I worded it badly, but yes, you can sign up or drop anytime.]

"I'm not surprised by that, considering I married him," Leia said. Well, she assumed there was a marriage involved. "Just tell me he's nothing like your grandfather."

"Nooo. Not at all," she said quickly. She was kind of hoping Anakin wasn't going to do or say anything that would keep her own alternate self from existing, in fact. "I heard that meeting didn't go so well."

"He seems to think he can walk right into my life after sixteen years and start telling me what to do," Leia said. Never mind that she had been the one to barge into his, actually. "While refusing to give me my mother's name. That is not going to happen."

It was kind of great to know someone else thought that way. "Yeah, he does that. I think he means well, he just... misses a lot of the time."

That went for Padme's name, too. It wasn't the way Jaina herself would handle it, but she knew Anakin had his reasons, even if she thought they were a bit misguided.

"He has to earn that right," Leia said stubbornly, crossing her arms. "He's a stranger -- a character out of a history book! Not my father."

"I'm with you on that," she admitted. Force knew she didn't make things easy at the start, and she'd known most of the story. "Are you planning to let him earn it?"

"He's not doing a very good job of it so far," Leia grumbled. "When I told him he didn't have any say over who I choose to spend my time with outside of class, he said, and I quote, 'Oh, you are very wrong about that, and feel free to bitch with Jaina about it.' So I take it he's meddled in your life as well?"

Jaina sighed. "And I thought we'd been making so much progress there," she said, shaking her head. "Yeah, he has. I've been with the same guy for years and he still has problems with it. I think it's the principle of the thing at this point. He thinks he has to be overprotective, so he is, or something."

"All he's done is encourage me to do exactly the opposite of what he says," Leia said. "Just to prove a point."

Vindication! She told him that! "I've found a balance to fighting with him," Jaina said slowly. "He either never realizes he's wrong or won't admit it. If you do everything he tells you not to, he'll drive you crazy by spring break."

"Or I'll drive him crazy," Leia said. She found that option much more attractive. "Maybe you can even give me a few tips. I'd ask you what boy would make him the most insane if I spent time with him, but I have a feeling I accidentally hit on that already with Chuck, given his reaction and yours."

"Yeah, I think you hit the target right on the first try," she admitted. Which, Jaina considered, was probably another reason to be more okay with that. She didn't think anyone could scare her with her mom more than Chuck.

"Trust me, I don't think there are tips I can give you for driving Grandfather crazy other than know you're right. Somehow I doubt that'll be a problem for you."

"Not at all," Leia said. "And even more so if he can't hold the names of my mother and my brother over my head." She looked meaningfully at Jaina.

Jaina really couldn't wait for the day that everyone stopped keeping things from each other. This got difficult sometimes, especially knowing Fandom's Luke didn't know about her yet, either.

She bit her lip and sighed, "That might fall under the things he needs to tell you. I know he's got reasons for being quiet right now. Give me a week, I'll see what I can get him to do."

"A week," Leia agreed. "I can give you that. I do have some patience." Just not a lot. "He seems to think knowing my real mother's name would be dangerous to me. But that knowing his name and a burning desire to start asking questions is perfect safe."

"And it's a slippery slope," she said, nodding. She'd just argued this, that once you'd started giving information, it wasn't right to keep other things a secret, especially when you expected so many others to be on board with it. "The thing is, once you get the information, you have to be careful, too. It might make it easier for him to give up the names if he knows you won't do your own hunting, and trust me when I say doing it anyway would be a bad idea."

Look at her, trying to mediate. Maybe she did have the politician gene.

"I don't have any plans to do anything foolish," Leia said. "I know it's dangerous to attract attention from the Emperor or Vader." Which didn't exactly stop her from being outspoken against the injustices she saw, however.

Oh, she had no idea. "Okay. With that, I'll see what I can get from him. No promises, but I'll try," she said.

"Thank you," Leia said. "I appreciate it. I know how strange this is for you -- and for me, too -- but I'm really not trying to drive you crazy." Her father, on the other hand....

"I know," Jaina said. "And hopefully I'm done with all the stuff that would make you want to screw with the timeline on purpose."

It was her last semester and she was friends with Rose and Lois. We'll see about that.

Leia had to raise an eyebrow at that. "Have you done things that would make me want to screw with the timeline before I got here?"

"Let's just say I get a lot of frustrated eyerolls," she said. "There's usually a lot more drama than there is for me at the moment. I yell a lot."

Which was probably why she was this calm about everything. It was her brain having no idea what to do with itself once logic got to the minor things that should freak he out.

She was a little embarrassed about that message now. Moreso about how she reacted to Chuck. "Sorry about that. Maybe I'll just leave my phone hidden somewhere before listening to radio from now on." Of course, there was a wall separating their rooms. If there was something Jaina really needed to rage about, Leia'd probably hear it.

"He didn't try anything I found objectionable, just so you know," Leia said. "And if he had, he would've needed help walking aback to the dorms."
