Office Hours, Monday, 12/15

There had been a shiny new packet of colored pencils in Tyler's keyboard tray when he slid it out.

That would have been more exciting if he hadn't been tending to a miniature pony.

A miniature pony with a hangover.

Tyler had a feeling he was going to need to talk to Lindsay about that one. For now, he was alternating between pretending to work and resisting his urge to film the hungover miniature pony.

Ben knocked on the door holding a clipboard and a piece of paper. "Do you have a moment, sir?" he asked politely.

"I probably have several," Tyler said, glancing away from his laptop screen. The pony had curled up in a corner and fallen asleep.

"What's up?"

"Assignment from home," Ben lied fluidly. "I wanted to get as many teachers' opinions on it as possible. If you were going to fake the death of a major political leader, how would you do it?"

Oh, this was an interesting one, and Ben had Tyler's full attention now. "Depends. Do you have the cooperation of the political leader in question?"

Ben nodded. "But he's not going to have a lot of time to get used to the idea," he said. "It's a security matter and he won't know about the threat until the last possible second."

"And how large is your team?" Tyler asked, closing his eyes. He knew he was looking for a lot of facts for a class exercise, but the ability to create a distraction could be key.

"It's a single person, but they're a Jedi," Ben said, "so factor in faster reflexes for extraction and the ability to make guards forget things like, oh, him being there."

Hmmmm. "Your teachers back home come up with interesting problems," Tyler informed Ben dryly, starting to come up with an idea.

"What kind of situation would you need to stage the death in? Can you make it look like the guy slipped in the tub at home, or does it have to be a big bang in front of a big crowd?"

"That first one," Ben said. "He's under house arrest."

[tyler_gone]

"Then the whole thing gets easier," Tyler said, an undertone of morbid glee in his voice. "Hypothetically, I'd Jedi-sneak past the guards and start a fire in his bedroom. Molotov cocktail, or whatever the local equivalent is. Hustle him out in the confusion. By the time anyone knows for sure that there's no body, you can have him be a long way away."

He raised an eyebrow. "Think something like that would do it for this scenario?"

Ben was taking careful notes. "I think that would work really, really well," he said, smiling. "Thank you."

"Anytime," Tyler said, with a smile of his own. "Let me know what they think of it back home. Oh -- and if there's a little extra time in the scenario, maybe leave a note pinning the bombing on a rival faction to make things even more crazy."

"Oooh," Ben said. "That would be even better! They took the credit for killing a different political leader a few months ago, so it's not outside their realm of expertise."

[tyler_gone]

"Then I think you have a plan," Tyler nodded.

Then he paused. "Which of course you aren't going to put into action, right?" He had the feeling this one was related to Anakin, and he had no desire to get on Anakin's bad side.

"Of course not," Ben lied sunnily. "It's just hypothetical."

Tyler wasn't sure he believed that, but on the other hand the boy was awfully chipper if he was planning on faking a death. He'd covered his ass as much as he felt the need to, anyhow.
