Tyler collapsed on his bed and closed his eyes.

"I think we can safely put both our worlds on the do-not-fly list," he informed Tony.

"Only if I'm allowed to bring the suit," Tony said, hesitantly poking at the sizable lump on the side of his head.

"Tony, if we go back I'd make you make a suit for me, too," Tyler promised, and winced at the poking. "Did they do anything to you? Other than the obvious."

Tony gave him a look for that. "You're the one who got into a fight." He might have given the blood on Tyler's shirt than just a passing glance.

"You could have made meatballs from that guy's face," Tyler confessed. Noticing the fall of Tony's eyes, he sat up and yanked his shirt off. "Somehow that whole thing has stopped being fun."

"When was it fun?"

Tyler laid back on the bed, still shirtless, to think. "When I was a kid," he answered. "My mom died, things were not going well, it was ... I got to reject everything, piss people off, boss people around. It's intoxicating."

He thought for a moment and added, "If you're a fucking moron."

"You must have been." Tony and comforting just didn't mesh. "But that's in the past now, right?"

"I am so far over it," Tyler answered, with a tiny smile. "I didn't even realize how far over it I was until I saw them."

Granted, he had said that before and gone back.

"I'm sure people have done stupider things," Tony replied, sitting down next to him. "Maybe a full body tattoo?"

Tyler gave him a look of confusion. "You're comparing leading a terrorist cell to an unwise body modification."

"You could always walk away from one."

"Could always get laser removal for the other," Tyler argued, mostly just to argue. "And tatoos don't grab your friends and drag them into nightclub basements."

"I'm sorry for the morons, by the way."

"I think I walked away fine if it was just a knock to the head." Of course now he wouldn't do much sleeping for the next week, but that wasn't new.

"Two head blows in a row, counting last week," Tyler winced. "No way can that be good for you, man."

"Says the guy who used to get into fights for fun."

"Never said I was well," Tyler smirked.

He told the ceiling, "I don't think I can do any of it anymore. Don't even want to teach explosives."

"Then teach something else," Tony replied dryly. "I'm sure your smart enough to move to another area of chemistry."

"Something else, anyhow," Tyler decided, closing his eyes again. "I have to fill out the form. I don't want to think about it right now."

He scooted further over on the bed; it was possible he was trying to convince Tony to lie down next to him without doing anything crazy. Like asking.

Tony leaned back on his elbows instead, looking at Tyler's hands for a moment. "You could always work for me."

And where had that offer come from? Tony wasn't quite sure.

Tyler just looked at him for a second, surprised. "And do what?"

"I'm sure Pepper would find something for you to do."

"Thank you, but I think I'll stick with teaching for now," Tyler said dryly. Being one of Tony's employees didn't sit right with him anyhow.

Tony smirked and lay back. "You know, I don't think I do this damsel in distress thing very well."

"You did get knocked unconscious," Tyler pointed out.

He was helpful like that.

"I was punched in the head," Tony repeated. Because it so clearly needed to be. "If I've forgotten how to tie my shoes, I'm going back there in the suit and scaring the crap out of them."

"Does it have a camera attachment?" Tyler asked. "Because if you do that, I wanna see video."

"Jarvis records and analyzes what I see in case I need it for further study." Like in you got into a fight with a large green man.

Tyler had mostly asked to be a smart-ass, but that answer intrigued him, and he rolled to his side to see Tony more clearly. "So you always have a prefect record of a fight," he stated. "Somehow that impresses me more than that the thing flies."

"The flight took much longer to perfect," Tony pointed out. "I injured myself more there than this kidnapping."

"Lots of fall down, go boom?" Tyler asked. "The whole thing has to have taken a long time."

"And I hope this is your last kidnapping."

"Somehow, with how things have been going since I built the suit, I doubt it will be."

"No kidding, especially around here," Tyler said.

He was a little ray of sunshine.

"You know, I don't think I've met anyone as pessimistic as you." The way he said it, it might have been a compliment.

"I'm just realistic," Tyler claimed.

"A regular ray of sunshine," Tony said dryly. He reached over to grab Tyler's hand and look it over with a critical eye for injuries.

Tyler let him take the hand with only the slightest effort at pulling it back. "I didn't mess it up," he informed Tony. The hand was a little bruised around the knuckles, but nothing Tyler would take seriously.

Sighing, Tony dropped it before anything cliche could happen. "I'd rather not have you get injured at all."

Tyler would have been disappointed they weren't living the cliché, but that thought was too ridiculous to indulge in.

"And I'd rather you not get kidnapped," he said instead, withdrawing the hand. "So we're even."

"What is with every person I meet her having this need to bludgeon themselves?"

Tyler gave him a look, then softened it by scooting closer. "I don't know, I could ask you the same thing."

"I'm just doing--" What needs to be done. "It's different."

"Still looks a lot like bludgeoning yourself from here," Tyler informed him. "Cooler than pounding the crap out of some mouthbreather, but same general idea."

"It's a purpose."

Tyler could have argued that he'd had a purpose, too, he hadn't started Fight Club for entirely frivolous reasons, but he was too tired to get into that and it wasn't an argument worth having.

So he did the sensible thing, rolled his eyes a little, and leaned in for a kiss before he could think too hard about that.

Tony's hand want up to his face, pressing back into the kiss. "We're sticking with my home from now on."

Tyler took a second to just enjoy the kiss. Then: "The one where I look like a fugitive who the army wants to dissect?"
