Tyler
It was technically the future in Tyler's Wilmington, though you'd never know it to look at the city. There were a few more hybrids on the street and ads for unfamiliar movies on the buses; that was it. That was mankind's technical progress over the missing decade.

Tyler had been swinging oddly between being utterly tense and complete relaxation since they got there, and that held as he slid into a diner booth. "This place is usually safe," he told Tony. "Or it was last time I was here."

The dishwasher looked out from the kitchen and gave Tyler a deferential nod. He pretended not to notice it.

Tony
"Cozy," Tony replied, looking around the diner as if something might give him herpes by getting to close. He was just going to ignore the nodding as well.

Tyler
"I wonder if they've gotten around to tearing down my old place yet?" In Tyler's world, this was reminiscing. "It's not too cold, we should walk by. Last time I was here they were chaining themselves to the porch to keep the city from condemning it."

Tony
"They?" Tony asked, now eying his water glass and wondering what was in it.

So maybe he wasn't the best at slumming unless he was trying to get into someone's pants.

Tyler
"Project Mayhem," Tyler said, sipping from his own water. It was fine, there wasn't much you could do to water. "Carrying on the vision of Tyler Durden, long after he decided he had no vision. It's the place we - I " -- he sometimes still forgot that -- "lived when I started the thing."

Tony
"...cute. I didn't know you had a cult dedicated to you," Tony said, more teasing that actually concerned. Someday he would learn to stay out of danger. Someday.

Tyler
"I don't," Tyler said, stressing the personal pronoun. "The Tyler Durden in these guy's heads is just ... insane. They think I have plastic surgery every year and was born in jail. It's why most of those bozos running around with broken noses haven't looked twice at me."

Tony
"You couldn't afford plastic surgery twice a year," Tony pointed out. He paused and looked around at the various injured men. "And the ones who do look at you twice?"

Tyler
"Are the ones who might actually have met me," Tyler said quietly, looking at them himself. One man was openly staring; he stared back just long enough to make him break his gaze.

Tony
Tony did not turned to look where Tyler was staring. Because that would imply it was bothering him. "Should I have brought Lindsey along? I'm sure she would have just loved this place."

Tyler
"I need to meet her sometime," Tyler said, twisting a little to see if he could find a waiter. "And nah, we'll be fine. I'm just paranoid." He thought about this.

"It can't go worse than my trips to your world."

... this was not saying much.

Tony
"I don't see anyone from the military, so I'd say it was a step up already," Tony replied cheerfully.
