Tyler already knew how the election turned out, at least in his world, so he wasn't sure why he kept checking the polling websites. Maybe it just gave him something to do until the minions showed up to make the posters, since he'd gotten in so early. (He hadn't exactly slept last night. Things were getting a little fuzzy around the edges in a way he missed.)

He finally dragged himself away from FiveThirtyEight.com and

Subject: Science Fair

Hey -

The school is sponsoring a science fair on Friday, Dec. 14, with a non-mandatory theme of "things you could use in an invasion." I'm thinking participation will mean extra credit for my students.It'll be open to faculty and students, and I'm working on the judging. Let me know if you want to volunteer for that or have other thoughts on the organizing..

I'll be sending out reminder emails between now and then and putting up posters. Otherwise, see you at the fair.

Tyler mock-shuddered. "Perky is a problem," he said. "I think I'll keep you uncaffeinated. More for me, anyhow."

"And so it all works out," she said agreeably. "Though, really, I think I take a good stab at perky most days even without it."

"Somehow I got the bounciest girls in school as assistants," Tyler said, shaking his head. "Go figure."

He gestured to the art supplies. "Look, I even made the sacrifice of getting glitter for you."

"It's 'cause we also like blowing things up," she said, grinning as she went over to check out the supplies. "And you did! This is why you're awesome, even if you don't like glitter."

What was wrong with glitter, geez? Ino wondered if it was just a boy thing. 'Must hate glitter' and all that.

"It's too sparkly," he said, by way of explanation. "And you can never get it off your clothes. I think it breeds after you touch it."

Tyler shrugged slightly, consigning the appeal of glitter to the vast land of things he did not get. "Can you draw at all?" he asked instead.

"If you can draw a straight line, that's enough for me," Tyler said, closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair. "Draw a Bunsen burner or an explosion or whatever. Or you could collage it. Or just text."

"I threatened painful death on a smug bastard." A beat. "Sorry 'bout the language. And got to visit a prison and see Liir get really pissed off about a Cat."

She shrugged, a bit nonchalantly. Laying out the first poster board.

"It would've been more interesting if there'd be any real danger beyond getting out of town in a hurry, but I guess with non-combatants with us..." Meh.
