Office Hours, 11/24

The first thing Tyler did when he got to his office today was to fasten the head of Smoochy to the wall over his desk, like some perverse big-game trophy.

The second thing was to grimace and swallow a palmful of Tylenols. Stretching and hammering things in was not the brightest idea given his cracked rib.

But being able to glance up at ol' Smooch's disembodied purple plushiness as he did his paperwork totally made it worth it.

"I'm following up on a report from last week saying that you were abducted by some 'police dudes'," Dale replied. "Since our department wasn't involved I thought it required investigation."

Tyler had to snort at that particular description. "They were military, not police," he said. "I looked like somebody from their world. They're into dissect first, check ID never."

Dale frowned at that. "And I know this is an odd question but I'm assuming this was the US Military?"

Because in Fandom you never could tell.

"Yeah, but not from my world," Tyler said, not finding the question especially odd because you really did need to be very clear about such things. "They were from Tony Stark's world, or close to it."

"The guy who looks like me was involved in some research that went wrong. I didn't get too many details."

Dale sighed. "I'm well too familiar with the troubles a doppelganger can bring. Would you like to make a formal complaint? I may not be able to engage in formal charges but I can at least put what happened on the record."

Tyler leaned forward on his desk, astonished by the naivete of that statement. "No offense, but I don't see how the Fandom Police are going to take on a general in the U.S. Army. No point in complaining."

Dale gave a nod in acknowledgement. "I understand that our police deaprtment isn't up to fending off an army, however if that general would happen to show up here again..."

Dale shrugged and grinned. "Well one man is only one man. One man can be arrested or blocked from setting foot on this island. Especially if he harms a citizen who lives here. I understand your point of view, sir but if you change your mind just ask for me down at the station."

"You're the new sheriff, aren't you?" Tyler said, finally remembering where he'd heard Dale's name. "I didn't get the general's name, anyhow. He didn't exactly introduce himself before slapping cuffs on me. But I can file a complaint once I have that."

"That I am," Dale said admitting to his title. "And if you don't mind I may follow up with Mr. Stark to see what he knows. If he does know the general's name, let me know and I can put the wheels in motion for you."

"I think talking to Tony is probably a really good idea," Tyler said, a little grateful. "Is there anything else you needed to know?"

"We can wait until ypu wish to make a statement," Dale replied with a nod. "You've already had a rather bad experience and I'm sure you'd prefer to get back to your routine."

"Wait," Tyler said. "So if I don't make a statement today, I have to rehash it later? Call this my statement and just ask ... you know. Whatever you would ask at the station."

He remembered his manners and added a, "Please."

"Fair enough," Dale replied and took out his notebook and began to take notes. "Again this took place at Mr. Stark's place of business. Can you give me a handwavy detailed account of what happened when you arrived?"

"Absolutely," Tyler said, then explained what had happened to Dale, from walking into the store to the fight in New York, fudging only the parts where Tony flew around in a shiny metal suit. "We drove home Friday morning for my class."

Dale raised his eyebrows a couple of times during the story but kept silent until Tyler was done. "Sounds like quite an adventure," he commented with a frown. "You're lucky you made it back. I'll take this notes back to me and then have the statement dropped off for your signature later this week. If you have any additional details to ask, please feel free to give me a call."

"It was," Tyler agreed."And thanks, Sheriff Cooper. I'll do that."

For an encounter with the law, that was painless.
